Camp Ahmek Wedding – Algonquin Park Wedding – Algonquin Park, Ontario

Algonquin Park Wedding.

The year before I was born, my parents bought a small piece of land on a little lake just outside Gravenhurst for $10,000 (yes that was possible 30-something years ago). The year I was born, they built a modest 3-bedroom cottage on that land for about the same amount of money. {I know, RIGHT!? If only real-estate-time-travel was possible} And from that point on, my parent’s little cottage in Muskoka became my solace, my church, my home base & my favourite place in the world. I was lucky to spend almost every summer up “at the cottage” as a child. I passed the days with 2 friends my age who had a cottage next door to us  (who are basically adopted family now); we would putter around the lake in an old tin boat with a 9.9hp outboard motor on the back, practicing our {limited} moves on the communal kneeboard (I’m pretty sure that finally being able to do a 360 on a kneeboard at 9 years of age feels just as good as winning as Oscar…well it did to us). We would only come off the water for lunch, making ourselves macaroni & cheese from the box (only the WHITE CHEDDAR kind) and then we would head back out for the rest of the day. Did you know that you can waterski behind a 9.9 hp motor? True story. I guess that is why, as an adult, I feel panicked if the temperature goes about 25 degrees and I am not near an open body of water. {Note: I wonder if there is a term for people who fear NOT being close to water…I will look into this.} I digress. What I remember about those long, lazy days of summer was that time of day when the sun would hit the water at just the right angle, creating a pathway of dancing crystals on the lake. I would often stop what I was doing to take a moment to observe {what felt like} my very own Yellow Brick Road. It’s a time of day that doesn’t last long, but it was always one of my favourites. So, you can imagine how happy it makes me when these moments happy for my clients on their wedding day and I get to capture them. This photo was taken on a crisp, late summer day in September at #campahmek in Algonquin Park. I mean, where else are you going to be able to order dancing crystals on your wedding day?
